Below is the newly redesigned website for the Associated Students of California State University, Chico. The Associated Students’ previous website was in need of a facelift and desperately needed to be responsive since the target demographic is college students ages 18 – 30. The Associated Students’ web committee was wanting a site with a clean, modern look that could be viewed by all computers, tablets, and smart phone devices, play videos, and have the ability to easily update the content by students and staff. As a result, I designed the site using WordPress with custom coding being added as needed from a third party vendor. Please click on the image below to experience the site.
Below are a few design samples of what the Associated Students’ previous website (www.aschico.com) looked like from 2010-2016. I was not the original designer of this website, but I became the front-end designer and content manager for the site. You can see that there were three feature boxes on the left side of the homepage which I would create digital ads for and rotate them on a frequent basis. Since the image area of these feature boxes was rather small, I would either link the image to a full size digital ad/poster I had designed for the upcoming event or to a page within the website. It was also my responsibility to update the “Upcoming Events” calendar on the right side of the homepage with the most current information. Within the description for each event I would also include a link to a web page or Facebook page for the event and/or to a full size poster or digital ad with all of the information for the upcoming event. You will also see that the main/center image of the website was used to feature 5-6 students per month that were employees of the Associated Students. These images would link to a page within the website that contained some bio information about the students, Q&A information, and a video. This same concept has been carried over to the redesigned website www.as.csuchico.edu (as seen above).
